The Bay Circuit Alliance
Since its founding in 1990 the Bay Circuit Alliance (BCA) has served as a catalyst to make the Bay Circuit dream come true.   Over 150 miles of multi-use, passive recreational trail have now been dedicated, thanks to the contributions of hundreds of volunteers in more than 30 cooperating towns.   The Alliance is best described as a partnership of organizations and individuals, public and private, working to complete the Bay Circuit Trail and Greenway.

BCA's membership consists of six regional, four statewide, and more than 25 local member organizations plus many interested individuals.   BCA helps local communities establish their portion of the Bay Circuit Trail through planning and technical assistance on route identification, land protection issues, and trail management and construction.   BCA also maintains contact with state and federal government representatives and agencies to promote the Bay Circuit Trail concept and consult on corridor-wide trail-related issues.

While establishing the trail as a major objective, BCA has successfully participated in efforts to add more "pearls" to the necklace of open space. From its inception through Trek 2000, BCA has helped add six important open space properties to the Bay Circuit: Prospect Hill in Rowley; the Haynes Property in Boxford; Camp Acton in Acton; White Farm in Sudbury; the Payne Estate in Wayland; the Mill Pond property in Ashland. After Trek 2000 efforts to complete the Trail have been aided by important spone space protection successes, particularly in critical "southern tier" communities. In 2004 the Commonwealth acquired a 1600 acres cranberry bog in Hanson and Halifax. The BCT route now utilizes an historic "Indian Crossways" dike on this beautiful open space property. Pembroke has acquired several cranberry bog properties for water supply protection and recreation. They provide important BCT connections, and in Kingston, a "Silver Lake Sanctuary" was created by a state/community partnership.
